Supplementary Prospectus dated 12 September 2008 relating to the U.S.$10,000,000,000 Programme for the Issuance of Debt Instruments of Rio Tinto Finance Limited (ACN 008 559 046) and Rio Tinto Finance plc (as Issuers) and Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited (ACN 004 458 404) (as Guarantors).

The Supplementary Prospectus should be read and construed in conjunction with the Base Prospectus dated 6 December 2007 (together, the 'Prospectus').
