Appointment of New Group Finance Director

The Board of Shanks Group plc ("Shanks" or "the Group"), one of Europe's leading waste management businesses, is pleased to announce the appointment of Toby Woolrych as Group Finance Director with effect from 27 August. Chris Surch will step down from the Board on 26 August and leave the Group on 31 August to join FirstGroup, as announced on 14 May.

Toby joins from Consort Medical plc where he has been Finance Director since 2008. He was previously Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Acta SpA, a renewable energy company.

Toby began his career at Arthur Andersen where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant before becoming Finance Director of Medicom International Ltd, a medical publishing company, in 1992. He joined Johnson Matthey plc as Corporate Development Manager in 1997, going on to become divisional Finance Director and then Managing Director of one of Johnson Matthey's global speciality chemicals business units.

Peter Dilnot, Group Chief Executive of Shanks, commented:

Shanks confirms that there is no further information to be disclosed under paragraph 9.6.13 of the listing rules with regard to this appointment.
