Rautaruukki delivered suction anchors to Aker S...

Press release 3 March 2009 Rautaruukki has delivered 16 suction anchors to its Norwegian customer Aker Solutions. The delivery is part of a contract signed earlier with Aker Solutions to deliver suction anchors and offshore steel plates for the oil and gas production platform under construction for the Gjøa field. Located to the Northwest of Bergen in the North Sea, the StatoilHydro's production platform is scheduled to come on stream in 2010. The massive anchors are 5.5 metres in diameter and nearly 20 metres in height and used to anchor the production platform to the sea bed. They will be sunk to a depth of some 360-380 metres and fixed to the bottom mud by vacuum. The suction anchors have been made with the help of a network of partners coordinated by Ruukki and delivered to the customer from Ruukki's Kalajoki unit in Finland. Ruukki has previously delivered smaller suction anchors to Aker Solutions in 2004 Kristin-project.
