                        QUARTO BENEFITS FROM ATKINS DIET


Quarto's newest publishing imprint, Fair Winds Press, has its first national
bestseller in the US, 500 Low-Carb Recipes. The book has been one of the best
selling books all year on Amazon.com, recently featuring as number 1 for three
consecutive days, and now appears on the USA Today national bestseller list.
Following this, and some nine months after the title's launch, orders for 45,000
copies were received in one week. The book is benefiting from the huge revival
in popularity of the Atkins diet, which favours recipes that are low in
carbohydrates and high in protein. The British edition will be published by
Apple Press, another of Quarto's publishing imprints, in September.


Laurence Orbach, Quarto's Chairman and Chief Executive, stated 'Quarto publishes
books of enduring interest that sell steadily over many years. As Quarto's low
risk publishing model shuns fancy advances, expensive endorsement fees, and
lavish marketing budgets, the firm's publishing prosperity does not depend on
the inclusion of Quarto titles on bestseller lists. The success of 500 Low-Carb
Recipes is a pleasing bonus.'
