Brainspark PLC 2 October 2000 Brainspark investment wins top industry award London, 29th September - Brainspark, the AIM listed incubator, focussed on developing internet and technology related businesses has seen one of its investments, Kerb, a full-service digital agency, receive the prestigious Web Agency of the Year award at the Future UK Internet Awards. The Brighton based agency, whose client list includes EMI music, Eidos, Pepsi, Elida Faberge and Mean Fiddler, won the award for work such as Louise and Dubstar's on-line fan sites, as well as design work for the Mean Fiddler's Reading Festival site. Brainspark invested £500,000 in Kerb in May 2000 who beat industry giants Pres.co and Agency.com to win the award in a real David and Goliath battle. Jim McNiven, Kerb's CEO said we're totally buzzed about the award, it's so good to see that all the insanity we design down in Brighton is so well respected by the general public. 'Our success has come because we work hard to understand the consumers our sites are built for, and we fill them with irreverence and fun - the qualities which make the public appreciate our design.' The award is seen by Brainspark as further affirmation of their incubator model (which includes investment and management support and advice) and its role in helping to create successful businesses. Brainspark's CEO, Stewart Dodd added: 'This is fantastic news for Kerb and demonstrates the value that has been created in a relatively short space of time. We recognised the unique talent that Kerb has and feel that they very much deserved to win this prestigious award. We look forward to lots more good news from Kerb as they expand into Europe.' Brainspark now has 17 investments, four of which have gone onto secure second- round funding.
