World Record Trip 2014 Munich - Berlin

Proton Power is pleased to announce that a 7.5 tonnes commercial vehicle with hybrid fuel cell/battery-electric system (HyRange®8) made by Proton Motor, drove the distance of 600km between Munich and Berlin. For the first time in history, such a distance was driven silently and emission-free by a light duty vehicle.

The cold season as well as the availability of energy- and hydrogen-refuelling stations on the route were challenging. The vehicle with the HyRange®8 fuel cell-system managed even the critical route sections.

The record trip came to an end at the CTI-Symposium in Berlin where the fuel cell system was presented to the international participants. Then, the vehicle and system had to meet additional challenges on the ADAC-test track in Berlin.

HyRange is a hydrogen fuel cell based, hybrid system for electrical battery-driven commercial vehicles and buses. It is using Proton Motors' own designed and produced fuel cells: PM200 and PM400. The system has been developed as a modular solution ensuring a broad range of applications across a variety of platforms. The only emission produced during operation is a small amount of clean, warm water. No harmful substances are produced.

With the HyRange®8 and HyRange®25 systems, Proton Power can offer a complete portfolio of products for the bus and light duty vehicle markets.

Faiz Francoise Nahab, CEO of Proton, said: "The trip to Berlin is a new world record with our vehicle and the HyRange system. It proves that the technology is ready for daily use. Nevertheless, the availability of Hydrogen fuelling stations needs to be improved in Germany and Europe. We hope that this example will further motivate the manufacturers of light duty vehicles and buses to use our technology for emission free transport. It also shows the government that fuel cells are a mature technology."
