                  PRESS SPECULATION REGARDING UNITED BISCUITS


Premier announced on 27 July 2006 that it was at the early stages of evaluating
the possible acquisition of part of the business of United Biscuits.  Premier
notes today's press speculation, and confirms that it is evaluating making an
offer to United Biscuits' current owners to acquire the UK and Ireland biscuits
and snacks businesses of United Biscuits.  Whilst Premier currently intends to
make such an offer in the near future, there can be no certainty that this will
result in a transaction.
