Plant Health Care files for patent protection for Computer Automated Spatial Analysis (CASA) technology

Plant Health Care (AIM: PHC), a leading provider of naturally derived products to the agriculture and landscape industries, announces that it has filed for USA and international patent protection for its Computer Automated Spatial Analysis (CASA) technology.

The CASA technology enables the user to achieve greater accuracy, efficiency and cost savings in their testing and screening programs. Additionally, spatial analysis allows the verification of field trial results where there is significant variability of factors such as soil type, drainage and elevation. Although the benefits of spatial analysis are well understood, few commercial fields are spatially analysed due to the lack of any automation, which is necessary in order for the analysis to be economically practical on a substantial acreage.

The CASA technology was originally developed to complement Plant Health Care's efforts with commercial partners to further scientific and commercial development of the Harpin and Myconate technologies

Following its creation, it became apparent that it could also help farmers understand the true yield effect of crop inputs on different areas within the same field. This in turn would allow for better management decisions, leading to higher yields, lower costs, and increased profitability.

Plant Health Care is in discussion with several potential partners with a view to monetising the CASA technology.

John Brady CEO of Plant Health Care commented: "We initiated this project with the goal of reducing the time and cost of our field trials while simultaneously increasing their accuracy. The results exceeded our expectations and conclusively proved the model. Consequently, there is already significant interest from a number of companies regarding the potential to commercialise this opportunity."
