Re Contract

Screen PLC 26 February 2001 SCREEN PLC: CONTRACT GAIN CCTV SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS FOR LEICESTER CITY COUNCIL; PETARDS VISION ORDER BOOK EXCEEDS £500,000 Screen Plc ('Screen'), the provider of advanced security and communication systems, announces that its Petards Vision subsidiary has received orders this year for its SWIFT and COBYT products in excess of £500,000 - a threefold increase on the comparable period last year. One of Petards Vision's latest contracts, valued at approximately £75,000, is to supply five additional wireless based SWIFT Rapid Deployment Camera systems to Leicester City Council ('the Council'). This contract follows a successful pilot project undertaken in conjunction with the Leicestershire Constabulary in the first quarter of last year. Petards Vision launched its SWIFT Camera systems in May 1999. It currently supplies these systems to 23 Local Authorities in England and Wales and to 5 UK Police Forces, including the Metropolitan Police. The SWIFT camera units are now being supplied to provide CCTV surveillance across high-crime rate areas within the City. Petards' SWIFT camera uses radio transmission technology to send video and control data signals. The flexible approach of the wireless based SWIFT camera system will enable surveillance of the areas in which the cameras are deployed to be monitored from either a designated remote observation site (either static or mobile), the local Police Station or the Council's own CCTV Control Centre. The SWIFT equipment being supplied also incorporates video encryption technology to ensure the security and integrity of the camera images. Commenting on the new surveillance project for the Council, Malcolm Teear, CCTV Consultant at Leicester City Council said: 'In common with most inner cities, we have areas in which crime and other undesirable behaviour is, from time to time, experienced. The changing nature and location of this activity makes it extremely difficult to address with conventional surveillance systems. The SWIFT system, with its built-in flexibility, allows us to respond quickly to changes in the patterns of such activity and has the additional benefit of allowing the camera to be deployed and monitored from several locations depending on the nature of the surveillance being carried out.' Said Michael Williams, Managing Director of Petards Vision: 'This project further illustrates how our SWIFT wireless camera system is being used to respond to rapidly changing circumstances that could otherwise not be easily addressed. The recent introduction of an advanced video encryption option further broadens the range of applications to which the equipment is suited.' ENDS
