Screen PLC 20 November 2000 SCREEN PLC: CONTRACT GAIN CCTV SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS FOR SHEPWAY DISTRICT COUNCIL Screen plc ('Screen'), the leading provider of advanced security and communication systems, announces that its Petards Vision ('Petards') subsidiary has won a contract worth £65,000 from the Shepway District Council ('Shepway DC') to supply 5 wireless based SWIFT Rapid deployment cameras and its COBYT (control by touch) CCTV Control System. Petards currently provide SWIFT and COBYT systems for 65 local authorities across the UK. The contract is the first with Shepway DC and will extend the Council's existing CCTV surveillance network in Folkestone and other areas within their region. The recently installed portable SWIFT cameras use radio transmission to send video and control data signals from camera locations to the CCTV Control room. This makes deployment and relocation of the cameras far easier and quicker than conventional CCTV cameras, as hard-wired connections at the camera location are not necessary. The contract also included Petards supplying its COBYT CCTV Management System to integrate existing fixed CCTV cameras and SWIFT cameras, allowing them to be operated simply and quickly at the touch of a finger. The high-tech touch screen technology provides a computerised map of camera locations throughout the District so that cameras can be focused on a designated area in seconds. These two systems add value to the Shepway DC's existing CCTV network. Portable cameras give flexibility to follow crime displaced by fixed CCTV monitoring, monitor one-off public events and cover areas where fixed cameras are not economical. Commenting on the contract gain, Keith Stone, Shepway DC Community Services Manager said: 'What attracted us to Petards' SWIFT system was the ease of deployment and relocation that results from its use of radio transmission technology. This means that we can quickly and cost-effectively establish CCTV surveillance in areas where we have a short term need and in circumstances where the costs of installing and maintaining a permanently positioned camera could perhaps not be justified. This flexibility, in combination with the advanced control facilities and activity reporting provided by the COBYT CCTV Management system, will play an important role in our future surveillance capabilities'. Michael Williams, Managing Director of Petards Vision said: 'This project further illustrates how radio transmission has evolved as the latest avenue for CCTV surveillance. Our system allows users to harness the very latest in technology, whilst reducing installation costs and on-going running costs. With the increasing burden of maintaining 24 hour CCTV, Councils are seeking to share resources and costs with their neighbours. Petards, as the pre-eminent leader in this market, is in a unique position to offer a seamless and cost-effective interface to the multitude of CCTV systems used nationwide.'
