Launch of Aviation Skills Charter

Pennant International Group plc ("Pennant", the "Group", or the "Company"), the AIM quoted supplier of integrated training and support solutions, products and services which train and assist operators and maintainers in the defence and regulated civilian sectors, is pleased to announce that on 3 September 2019, at an event at Cranfield University, aviation and aerospace industry leaders and educators came together as a unified body to support the launch of a new Charter for Aviation Skills.

The purpose of this new Charter is to create commitment and responsibility amongst key stakeholders to address the widely-recognised shortage of skilled people within UK aviation industry and to formulate a tangible, and achievable action plan to deliver more trained pilots, aircraft technicians, air traffic controllers and groundcrew.

Organisations attending the Charter event comprised major OEMs, operators and educational institutions and included Airbus, Boeing, British Airways, Ryanair, Leonardo, Marshalls and Cranfield University.

The Charter, which aligns with the UK Government's draft 'Aviation 2050' strategy, anticipates a multi-faceted approach to delivering more skilled people for UK aviation, which will include the creation of clear pathways into aviation careers, providing a catalyst for industry and educators to establish new training courses and academies.

The Charter launch was co-ordinated by the Aviation Skills Partnership, part of the Pennant Group which has been a driving force in tackling this widely recognised skills gap.

John Ponsonby OBE, Chairman of ASP commented:

"The UK needs to re-establish its place at the forefront of aviation training to meet a global skills gap and to sustain and grow the UK aviation and aerospace industries. Launching this Charter, with its associated action plan, is the first step in this critical journey."
