Standard Life Assurance Company has advised the Company that it bought 4,070,000
ordinary shares of Standard Life European Private Equity Trust PLC, 2.6% of the
issued ordinary shares, on 10 December 2002.  This resulted in an increase in
its interest in the company from 50.7% to 53.3% and which now amounts to a total
of 84,815,718 shares.
