The Company has today been informed of the following purchases on behalf of Mr
Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company:

 - purchase of 1,130 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 599p on
   20 October 2000 by his wife Mrs G M Swire

 - purchase of 1,130 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 599p on
   20 October 2000 
  

As a result of these purchases Mr Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company,
is now interested in 13,212 ordinary 67p shares of the Company (0.07% of the
issued class of capital).
