The Company has today been informed of the following purchases on behalf of Mr
Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company:

 - purchase of 1,974 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 446p on
   25 September 2001 by his wife Mrs G M Swire

 - purchase of 3,995 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 450p on
   25 September 2001

As a result of these purchases Mr Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company,
is now interested in 23,636 ordinary 67p shares of the Company (0.13% of the
issued class of capital).
