On-Line PLC 26 September 2000 ON-LINE PLC GAIN WAP RIGHTS FOR 'SPACE INVADERS' On-line PLC, the AIM listed Internet and content company, has today signed an agreement with Taito Corporation in Japan, giving On-line the license to develop and distribute the video game 'Space Invaders' via WAP. 'Space Invaders' is probably the most famous computer game of all time and the original coin-op sensation that founded the computer games industry. Taito Corporation are a developer and manufacturer of coin-op and consumer game software and owns the intellectual property rights for the 'Space Invaders'. Today's agreement gives On-line the rights to further develop the product specifically for WAP, and to distribute to GSM and GS3 modes. Originally designed and programmed for Taito, Japan in 1978. The 'Space Invaders' franchise has generated more than $500 million in revenue over multiple platforms including coin-op, the Atari 2600 and the Nintendo. Over the course of its history, 'Space Invaders' was the first arcade game ever adapted for Atari's home system and spawned several sequels. These included Space Invaders Part II, Space Invaders Deluxe and Super Space Invaders 91.
