                           Transaction in Own Shares

Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 1 April 2008 it purchased
through Deutsche Securities (Pty) Limited a total of 560,134 of the Company's
ordinary shares of 10p each.

All of these shares were acquired on the JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR
18.2724 per share.

The purchased shares will be held in treasury. The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,292,864,812 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
217,693,540 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
