                           Transaction in Own Shares


Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 19 December 2007 it purchased
through Deutsche Bank AG, London Branch and Deutsche Securities (Pty) Limited a
total of 5,243,286 of the Company's ordinary shares of 10p each.

1,943,286 of these shares were acquired on the London Stock Exchange at an
average price of 163.07 pence per share and 3,300,000 shares were acquired on
the JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR 22.72 per share.

The purchased shares will be held in treasury. The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,405,101,810 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
105,101,059 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
