Directors' interests in shares of Old Mutual plc (the 'Company').

The Company has been informed, by a letter received today, that Mr P G
Joubert, a non-executive director of the Company, has purchased 25,500
ordinary shares of 10 pence each in the Company ('shares') at a price of
ZAR13.67 each.  This purchase took place on The Johannesburg Stock Exchange on
14 March 2000.  The total number of shares in which Mr Joubert is now
interested is 30,000.
