Change to Board of Directors

Old Mutual PLC 4 September 2000 OLD MUTUAL PLC Senior Management Changes Old Mutual plc today announced a reorganisation of its international asset management operations ahead of its planned acquisition of United Asset Management Corporation (UAM) of the United States. Kevin Carter, currently Chief Executive of Old Mutual Asset Managers (UK) Ltd (OMAM), will move to Old Mutual's Berkeley Square headquarters to take a lead role in management of the asset management operations to be acquired as part of the UAM transaction. On July 19th Old Mutual launched a tender offer for UAM, one of the leading fund management organisations in North America. Kevin Carter commented: 'The acquisition of UAM will transform Old Mutual's asset management operations by adding a significant presence in the North American market. This acquisition will open significant opportunities for expansion and development of our businesses in our traditional markets as well as introducing new opportunities for the UAM affiliated businesses. Over the past few weeks I have been exploring with a number of UAM fund managers how we can move rapidly to exploit these exciting opportunities and gain benefit for these enhanced operations. I very much look forward to continuing to work closely with the UAM teams in future.' Eric Anstee, Chief Executive of Old Mutual Financial Services and head of the group's asset management businesses said: 'The expansion of our asset management business globally is a key imperative for Old Mutual. We have therefore asked Kevin Carter to focus exclusively on the development of the United Asset Management businesses. Kevin's long and successful history as Chief Executive of Old Mutual Asset Managers (UK) will be invaluable in the task ahead.' 4 September 2000 Enquiries: James Poole / Anna Quenby Old Mutual plc Tel: +44 (0)20 7569 0100 Nicholas Williams College Hill Tel: +44 (0)20 7457 2020
