NEW STAR INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The Company has today been informed that, following a recent transfer of
Ordinary shares, Jupiter Asset Management Limited is now interested in a total
of 33,534,220 Ordinary shares of 1p each, representing 30.53% of the issued
class of capital.

Jupiter Asset Management Limited does not hold any shares beneficially, but
holds them as an investment manager acting on behalf of discretionary clients.

Among the underlying beneficial holders are the following, who hold over 3% of
the issued share capital of that class of capital:

M F Heathcoat Amory            -        5,011,747 (4.56%)

C Crowther                     -        5,250,401 (4.78%)

S Crowther                     -        5,201,401 (4.78%)
