DIVIDEND ON SERIES I NON-CUMULATIVE DOLLAR PREFERENCE
SHARES FOR THE 60 DAY PERIOD TO 30 SEPTEMBER 1999

SERIES I

The directors have declared a dividend on the Series I Non-
cumulative dollar preference shares, which are represented
by Series I American Depositary Shares, for the 60 days to
30 September 1999.   The dividend will be paid on 30
September 1999 at a rate of US$0.333 per share to holders
on the register at the close of business on 15 September
1999.   As at the date of this announcement all of the
Series I Non-cumulative dollar preference shares are held
by The Bank of New York, N.A. as Depositary who have
advised that the record date for the American Depositary
Receipts which evidence the Series I American Depositary
Shares is 15 September 1999.
