Morgan Sindall JV secures Whitechapel

Crossrail contract worth £110 million

Morgan Sindall Group plc today announces that Morgan Sindall, its construction and infrastructure division, has been awarded the Whitechapel Main Station Works Crossrail contract worth £110 million in a joint venture with Balfour Beatty and VINCI Construction (BBMV).

The project is worth approximately £29 million to Morgan Sindall.

The project is split into three distinct parts including construction of the new Whitechapel Station in the existing Hammersmith & City and District Line cutting; a new station and bridge concourse in, and over, the East London Line cutting; and a new ticket hall behind the retained building fronting on Whitechapel Road. The works will also include the shafts and platforms for the Crossrail tunnels plus related architecture and mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure.

As part of the project, Morgan Sindall Professional Services, the design and engineering consultancy in the construction and infrastructure division, will be working with Balfour Beatty Engineering Services on the installation of the M&E.

Work is due to commence in January 2012 and complete in 2018.

Paul Smith, Chief Executive of Morgan Sindall Group plc, said:

"As one of the UK's leading construction and infrastructure contractors we continue to offer our customers unparalleled expertise and experience. This is another important contract win for us on the Crossrail development demonstrating our expanded offering in the key growth sector of rail."
