                                TREASURY SHARES

The Company holds a balance of 1,243,820 Mitchells & Butlers ordinary shares as
treasury shares following the exercise of a savings related option over 162
shares at a price of 258.5p per share.

As a result of the above, the number of shares in issue, excluding shares held
in treasury is 402,535,873 ordinary shares.
