                                TREASURY SHARES

The Company holds a balance of 712,929 Mitchells & Butlers ordinary shares as
treasury shares following the exercise of savings related options over 2,748
shares at 209p per share.

As a result of the above, the number of shares in issue, excluding shares held
in treasury is 403,066,764 ordinary shares.
