                           Purchase of Own Securities





Mitchells & Butlers plc announces that on 23 February 2007 it purchased 133,000
of its ordinary shares at a price of 746.41 pence per ordinary share.  All of
these shares will be held as treasury shares.



Following the above purchase, Mitchells & Butlers plc holds 379,779 ordinary
shares as treasury shares. The total number of Mitchells & Butlers shares in
issue is 403,399,914 (excluding shares to be held in treasury).



It is intended that the shares held as treasury shares will be used to meet
obligations of Mitchells & Butlers under employee share option schemes.
