                          Senior Independent Director

To further improve the existing high governance standards at Mitchells & Butlers
it has been decided to separate the role of Senior Independent Director from
that of Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

Sara Weller has provided outstanding support to the Board in both roles over the
last four years but, in view of increasing demands associated with her role
within the newly formed Home Retail Group plc, she has elected to stand down
from her role as Senior Independent Director. However, I am pleased to confirm
that she has agreed to continue as Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. With
immediate effect, Drummond Hall is appointed Senior Independent Director, having
recently stepped down from his full time position as Chief Executive of Dairy
Crest plc.
