                            Mitchells & Butlers plc

                              Disposal of 102 pubs

Mitchells & Butlers is pleased to announce that it has today exchanged contracts
for the disposal of 102 of its smaller, community pubs to Trust Inns Ltd, a
private company, for £101m. In the 12 months to 5 August 2006 the pubs generated
EBITDA of £10.2m. The transaction is expected to complete on 11 October 2006.

Following completion, Mitchells & Butlers will provide certain services to Trust
Inns Ltd to support the pubs for up to nine months.
