                         DIRECTORS INTERESTS IN SHARES


Following the separation of the retail and hotels businesses of Six Continents
PLC, the Six Continents ESOP Trust (the 'Trust') has today sold 1,480,000 shares
in Mitchells & Butlers plc ('MAB') at £2.087p per share.  The Trust no longer
holds MAB shares.


The Executive Directors of MAB (T Clarke, K Naffah, M Bramley and A Hughes), as
former employees of Six Continents are deemed to be technically interested in
the above sale.
