Re Agreement

Yoomedia PLC 06 February 2003 YooMedia PLC ('YooMedia' or 'the Company') selected by Government as the only dedicated interactive TV company for e-voting framework YooMedia is pleased to announce that it has been selected for inclusion in the interactive TV (iTV) e-voting 'Framework' by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). YooMedia has been chosen specifically as the only dedicated iTV company to develop secure interactive TV voting for local elections. Development commences immediately and pilots are to be conducted by Local Authorities over the next three years. Eddie Abrams, YooMedia's Development Director says: 'This is an excellent win for YooMedia; it is not only an affirmation of our strong position within the iTV market but is also a highly encouraging endorsement of YooMedia's integrity following its restructuring. To gain this, YooMedia has had to go through a stringent selection process. Technical expertise and security know-how, alongside proven service delivery to the public through iTV, were all key factors in securing our selection. YooMedia will develop a robust, secure application designed to make elections more accessible, more convenient and more attractive to people who would otherwise be less likely to vote'. The work will start immediately and will initially involve discussions with major digital TV platforms and Local Authorities intending to pilot the service. YooMedia intends to provide e-voting capability across all UK digital cable and satellite TV networks. The Government has said that it has earmarked £30 million over the next three years for the electoral pilot programme, opening up the possibility of an e-enabled general election some time after 2006. The budget encompasses all costs associated with the planned pilot e-voting schemes. over the next three years. YooMedia is unable to estimate its share, if any, of the total budget. The move follows the success of last May's trials in which 2.5 million people - 11.5 % of the electorate - had the chance to vote in local elections by different methods. Several of these pilots resulted in significant increases in voter turnout. Abrams says that the system will make voting more straightforward for the UK public: 'Allowing people to vote from home using their televisions will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the electoral process. The inclusion of disability accessibility standards as part of the e-voting technology provides a good opportunity to improve social inclusion too.' The YooMedia DTV e-voting application will integrate with third party 'hosting and infrastructure' solutions using the OASIS Election Mark-up Language (EML) that is advocated by the government. The application will comply with required security, interoperability and disability access standards. YooMedia will project manage DTV e-voting application development and deployment, coordinating with Local Authorities and other providers and delivering technical and user support for e-voting pilots. YooMedia recently launched the 'yoome 2' interactive TV channel on Telewest digital cable TV. This new entertainment and community channel allows viewers to play exclusive games (including Tetris (R)), chat with other users, win prizes and download mobile phone ring tones and logos. In addition this week sees the launch of Tetris(R) on ntl.
