The Merchants Trust PLC announces that on 17 December 2007 it purchased 105,000
Ordinary 25p Shares (representing 0.10% of the issued class of capital) at
456.24p per Ordinary Share, for cancellation.

Settlement and cancellation of the purchased 105,000 Ordinary Shares is due on
20 December  2007 when the issued share capital of the Trust will fall to
102,928,744 Ordinary 25p Shares.
