REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

The Mercantile Investment Trust plc has today purchased 85,418 ordinary shares for cancellation at 839.06 pence per share.

Following the transaction the remaining shares in issue total 102,886,765.
