dated 30th September 2002 from AMVESCAP PLC:

Section 198 Companies Act - Disclosure of Share Interest

We write to advise you that, whilst AMVESCAP PLC's overall holding has remained
at 35,261,903 (19.85%*) Ordinary Shares of 5p each as disclosed previously,
following transfers between funds under their management, notifiable holdings
within their overall holding have changed as follows:-

INVESCO Perpetual High Income fund purchased 1,000,000 shares and now holds
14,651,636 shares (8.25%*). INVESCO Perpetual Income Fund purchased 1,000,000
shares and now holds 5,707,453 shares (3.21%*), while INVESCO Perpetual
International Core Fund sold 2,860,000 shares and now holds 6,115,565 shares
(3.44%*), all registered in the name of Vidacos Nominees Limited.

We wish to advise you that none of these shares are beneficially owned by
AMVESCAP. Subsidiary companies of AMVESCAP have a large number of portfolio
management clients for whom they act as investment manager and investment
advisor and by virtue of Section 203 of the companies act 1985 AMVESCAP is
deemed to have the same interest m the shares.


*Based on an issued share capital of 177,639,197
