Martin  Currie  Portfolio Investment Trust plc, on 1 October 2009,  bought  back
178,000  ordinary  shares  at  a  price of 111.9101p  per  share  for  immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 119,796,330 ordinary shares remain in issue.
