Martin  Currie Portfolio Investment Trust plc, on 22 January 2009,  bought  back
150,000  ordinary  shares  at  a  price of  89.2500p  per  share  for  immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 133,990,458 ordinary shares remain in issue.
