Martin  Currie  Portfolio Investment Trust plc, on 20 August 2009,  bought  back
25,000   ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  103.4p  per  share  for   immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 120,979,585 ordinary shares remain in issue.
