Martin  Currie  Portfolio  Investment Trust plc, on 2 April  2009,  bought  back
38,073  ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  86.6313p  per  share  for  immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 133,186,938 ordinary shares remain in issue.
