                           MMC NAMES HEIDI MILLER
                      VICE CHAIRMAN OF MARSH INC. UNIT

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, January 10, 2001 -- Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc.
(MMC), the global professional services firm, announced today that Heidi G.
Miller has been named vice chairman of Marsh Inc., its risk and insurance
services operating company.

Ms. Miller's appointment is effective January 15, 2001.  She will report to
John T. Sinnott, chairman and chief executive officer of Marsh Inc.  In this
new position, Ms. Miller's responsibilities will include Marsh Inc.'s
strategy, administration, communications, e-commerce, finance, human resources
and technology.

J. W. Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer of MMC, said, 'We are

Ms. Miller, age 47, began her career at Chemical Bank in 1979 and ultimately
served as managing director and group head, emerging markets, from 1987 to
1992.  From 1992 to 1998, she was with Travelers Group, Inc.  After joining
the company as vice president and assistant to the president, she became chief
risk officer of its Salomon Smith Barney unit and continued to hold that
responsibility when she became chief financial officer of Traveler's in 1995.
Ms. Miller served as chief financial officer of Citigroup, Inc. from 1998 to
2000.  She was most recently a member of senior management at Priceline.com.

Ms. Miller holds a B.A. in history from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in
history from Yale University.  She serves on the boards of directors of Bank
One Corporation; General Mills, Inc.; Mead Corporation and Merck & Company,
Inc.
