Statement Re Press Comment

London Stock Exchange plc notes the article in this morning's Daily Telegraph
under the heading "LSE hits at 'asset stripper' predator". The Exchange wishes
to clarify that it has not authorised any of its spokesmen to use the phrase
"financial asset stripper" and, to the best of its knowledge and belief, none of
their spokesmen have done so.   The Exchange continues to reject outright last
week's Macquarie proposal which fundamentally undervalues the Company.
