                ANNOUNCEMENT OF FIRST QUARTER TRADING STATEMENT


London Stock Exchange plc will release its first quarter trading statement for
the period ended 30 June 2002 on 12 July 2002, the day of the Exchange's Annual
General Meeting.



Notes

London Stock Exchange plc (the "Exchange") stated in its Listing Particulars
dated 18 June 2001 that it intended to issue a statement following the first and
third quarters, updating the market on trading conditions and their impact on
the Exchange.  The first quarter trading statement will provide summarised
turnover information and an assessment of trading during the completed quarter.
