ACQUIRES A MAJORITY STAKE OF HISPAVISTA Liberty Surf has taken a majority stake in Hispavista. The operation represents a new and a major step in its international development strategy. Hispavista is one of the very important players in the Spanish speaking internet scene, which includes the Latin-American and North-American market. The operation gives Liberty Surf the opportunity to launch free internet access services in Spain within the next few months, under the European brand name Liberty Surf. The Hispavista company provides a sound basis for the launching of Liberty Surf's free internet access in Spain, providing a high traffic portal, Spanish speaking content, know-how and a management team for the Spanish speaking operations. The four major Spanish-language portals operated by Hispavista consist of : - Hispavista.com a horizontal internet portal, first launched in June 1997 and ranking among the top ten most-visited portals (according to The Asociacion para la Investigacion de los Medios de Comunicacion). It offers its users an internet directory and search engine as well as other information and value-added internet services. - Trabajos.com, a major provider of online recruiting and career services created in June 1996 and containing more than 39,000 CVs of individuals from 16 different countries. It also seeks to address the needs of employers and recruitment agencies by providing them with a flexible and cost-effective way to manage recruiting processes. - Labolsa.com, a financial information portal created in September 1996 and providing its users with a wide range of financial information resources. Its early entry into the Spanish internet market favoured the development of a strong community of financial investors using it in their daily operations. - Galeon, a free web-hosting and virtual community portal launched in October 1999 which gained over 11,000 subscribers in five months.
