3rd Quarter Sales Figures

Kingfisher PLC 21 November 2000 Trading statement for 13 week period ending 28 October 2000 KINGFISHER REPORTS SALES GROWTH OF 12.5% Kingfisher plc, the European retail Group, today reports that total sales grew during the third quarter by 12.5 % to a record £2.92 billion. Like-for-like sales increased by 3.8% for the quarter. In local currency terms, the Groups total sales were ahead by 15.4%. For the year to date total sales were up 12.0% (15.6% adjusting for currency) and like-for-like sales were ahead by 5.6%. The Groups three sectors all showed increased total sales with a particularly strong performance in DIY. This performance was boosted by the continued roll out of B&Q Warehouse along with strong growth from international operations. Electrical achieved growth of just over 9% boosted by continued strength from Comet and BUT. General Merchandise grew sales by over 6% with strong performances by Super drug and the new formats (Big W and Woolworth General Store) offsetting the slower rate of growth at Woolworth. Like-for-like sales were ahead by nearly 5% in both DIY and Electrical. Darts in particular performed strongly, delivering like-for-like growth of over 10%. General Merchandise grew by over 1%, reflecting continued tough market conditions. Commenting on the sales figures, Sir Geoffrey , Chief Executive, said: 'Overall, these are encouraging sales figures achieved in a highly competitive environment.' He added: 'We are now entering a key time and our businesses are focused on delivering success throughout the Christmas trading period, which, as ever, will have an important impact on the years performance.'
