Exploration of the 92 claim unit pillar and 158 claim unit Norwood properties has started with a soil geochemical survey which is directed at identifying the source of the lake sediment anomalies found by the OGS (Ontario Geological Survey) Operation Treasure Hunt Survey. Pillar has a distinct Ni (nickel) anomaly that is interpreted to reflect ultramafic rocks beneath the Nipigon Gabbro sills. The main target is disseminated to massive sulphides within the ultramafic-picrite-pyroxenite rocks that were emplaced during the formation of the Nipigon Plate. A major north trending rift structure called the Black Sturgeon Fault passes through the Havoc property 3 miles south of Norwood and appears to extend northward through parts of Norwood and Pillar. Steep north trending valleys cut through both Pillar and Norwood reflect the presence of such a fault. Soil sampling will be followed up by geology and an airborne geophysical survey. This setting is similar to the Noril'sk Ni-Cu-PGE camp in Siberia. In addition highly altered Sibley sediments that are hematized and brecciated occur on Pillar. Actinolite veining is also present. This style of alteration is indicative of an older Olympic Dam style setting which may be hidden beneath the Nipigon Gabbro Sills and exposed at the base of small cliffs and in valleys. The geochemical survey will assist in defining this type of target as well as the Ni-Cu-PGE Noril'sk style of mineralization. An extensive Rift system has now been recognized on the west part of the Nipigon Plate and two major Proterozoic intrusive events have occurred. The English Bay alkali porphyry intrusion which occurs on the east side of the Havoc property has been age dated as 1540 my by OGS which is the same age as Olympic Dam in Australia. The Nipigon gabbro intrusive event is part of the early Keweenawan (1109 - 1085 my) and developed along with the Keweenawan lavas and Duluth Gabbro complex near Lake Superior. This project is a joint venture with East West Resource Corporation of Vancouver.
