The Board of The Fleming Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc are pleased to
announce the appointment of David Thompson as a non-executive Director of the
Company with immediate effect.

Mr Thompson is currently chairman of The Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries PLC
and he holds non-executive directorships with Warburtons Limited, Persimmon plc
and The Income & Growth Trust plc.  He previously held non-executive
directorships with El Oro Mining & Exploration plc, and the Exploration Company
plc.

There are no further disclosure requirements required under 16.4 of the Listing
Rules.
