                      LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT

          THE FLEMING JAPANESE SMALLER COMPANIES INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The Fleming Japanese Smaller Companies Investment Trust Plc announces that at
the Company's Annual General Meeting held today, all resolutions put to
shareholders were passed, including the following Special Resolutions:

(a)    authorising the Company to make market purchases of up to 14.99% of its
issued share capital for cancellation;

(b)   to change the Company's name to 'JPMorgan Fleming Japanese Smaller
Companies Investment Trust plc'.

The change of name will become effective on the issue of the certificate of
incorporation on change of name by the Registrar of Companies, and a further
announcement will follow in this respect.
