The number of shares repurchased to date should read 9,940,000 and not
9,690,000 as previously shown.  The remaining shares in issue should read
47,304,423 not 47,554,423 as previously shown. All other details remain

                REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

The Fleming Japanese Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc announces that on
Wednesday 14th November 2001 in the market it purchased for cancellation
180,000 ordinary shares at 192p per share representing 0.38% of the ordinary
shares in issue.

The number of shares repurchased to date now totals 9,940,000.

The remaining shares in issue following this announcement are 47,304,423.
