              THE FLEMING EMERGING MARKETS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

                REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION



The Fleming Emerging Markets Investment Trust plc announces that yesterday in
the market it purchased for cancellation 150,000 ordinary shares at 89.5 pence
per share representing 0.17% of the ordinary shares in issue.


The number of shares repurchased to date now totals 6,585,000.


The remaining shares in issue following this notification are 90,269,218.
