              THE FLEMING EMERGING MARKETS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC


               REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR  CANCELLATION


The Fleming Emerging Markets Investment Trust plc announces that today in the
market they purchased for cancellation 165,000 ordinary shares at 116.5 per
share representing 0.18% of the ordinary shares in issue.


The number of shares repurchased to date now totals 5,565,000.


The remaining shares in issue following this notification is 91,289,218.
