                            PARTICIPATION IN SCHEME

The Company notes the announcement by F&C Emerging Markets Investment Trust plc.
Accordingly, dealings in the new shares to be issued in connection with the
scheme of reconstruction of that company will not now commence at 8.00 a.m.
today.
