                         Increase in Gearing

The  Board of Fleming Asian Investment Trust plc announces that  the
Company has entered into a £20m revolving loan agreement with Robert
Fleming  &  Co.  Limited. This is in addition  to  the  £10m  multi-
currency revolving loan which is already in place, also with  Robert
Fleming & Co.
