                           CHANGE OF BOARD MEMBERS


3rd August 2001


The Board of the Company are pleased to announce the appointment of Ian
Wilson, CBE and Alun Evans, CMG as non-executive Directors of the Company.

Ian Wilson has had an extensive international career with Standard Chartered
Bank where, amongst other appointments, he was the Chief Executive Officer of
their Hong Kong operation and in addition was responsible for their operations
in China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.  Mr Wilson's appointment will take effect
from 1st September 2001.

Alun Evans is currently International Affairs Adviser to British Airways.
Prior to this he was with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office where he rose to
senior management level with responsibility, latterly, for Far Eastern issues.
Mr Evans's appointment will take place with effect from 1st November 2001.

With respect to these appointments there is no further information to be
disclosed as required under paragraph 16.4 of the Listing Rules.

Sir Alan Donald, KCMG has decided to retire from the Board with effect from
31st December 2001.  Sir Alan has been a non-executive Director of the Company
since its formation in 1997.  Prior to this he was also a non-executive
Director of the predecessor company, The Fleming Far Eastern Investment Trust
plc for 6 years.
